School Governors 2015/16

Being a governor is a voluntary role and as a body they help to support the school and act as a critical friend. Governors can always be approached if there is anything you wish to discuss or query.

Staveley School Governors

Mr Stuart Gentle - Chair
Stuart Gentle

"I have a daughter at the school and became a Parent Governor in 2012. I wanted to contribute my time and experience to help the school achieve its objectives of providing a first class education in a safe and secure environment. I want every child who comes to the school to have the best possible start in life. I was appointed as Chair in 2014, a role which I find very enjoyable and fulfilling. As part of the Governing Body I provide critical support to the management team and assist with guiding the strategic direction of the school.

Away from school I have worked for over 30 years in the Corporate Banking sector and act as mentor to new business start-ups. I am married with 3 children and enjoy many hobbies including reading, music, travel and sport."

Mrs Vicky Hogg - Vice Chair
Vicky Hogg

I was elected to be a parent governor in 2014 and I was appointed vice chair later that year. I live with my husband and our children on our farm in Copgrove. I have three children, two of which currently attend Staveley Community Primary School.

I wanted to be involved in ensuring that all children have the best possible experiences and outcomes at Staveley and that they can leave with fond and happy memories of primary school. I feel that every child should be supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. I am passionate about my role in supporting the head teacher and the teaching staff within the school too. It is a privilege to be involved in the development of our school and I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of my governor role.

I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2003 with BHSc degree in Adult Nursing and I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2005 with a BSc degree and a Specialist Practitioner District Nurse qualification. I worked in community nursing before undertaking my current role in hospice services as a registered manager and a clinical lead.

My hobbies are field sports, riding motocross bikes, running, swimming and eating out! I also thoroughly enjoy spending time with my family on our farm.

Mrs Fiona Roberts - Staff Governor and Teacher in Class 3 (years 3 and 4)
Mrs Roberts
Mrs Roberts has a degree in Psychology and German and a PGCE in Primary Education and has been teaching since 1998. She has taught in 2 schools in Huddersfield, where she has had experience of a variety of roles in school and taught children from nursery age to Key Stage 2.
After returning from maternity leave in March 2012, she decided to work part time and, following a family relocation to North Yorkshire, joined Staveley School in September 2013.

Mr Alan Wray - Parent Governor
Alan Wray

I grew up in Burton Leonard and went to the then, tiny, local school with less than thirty pupils. I remember coming to Staveley school to play against them at cricket on many occasions back in the 70s but never dreamt that my children would come to our rival school! I left Burton Leonard to study Engineering at Leeds and then I worked as an Engineer at various levels in Leeds, France, and a number of other countries. I lived in France for 7 years and my wife, Virginie is French. In 2004 I moved back to the UK and trained as a secondary science teacher and now teach at King James's School, Knaresborough.

When I'm not working, I enjoy mountaineering, running, cycling, open water swimming, DIY, gardening, flying light aircraft, fly fishing, reading and going away with my family in our caravan. I am passionate about education and teaching and I believe that every child should be given the the best possible opportunity to succeed and be able to find where their talents lie.

Mrs Natasha Astill - Community Governor
Natasha Astill

"I have been a Governor from the beginning of 2015, since moving to the area from the Isle of Mull a few months earlier. I am a doctor working in sexual health and HIV medicine at Leeds General Infirmary. I have 2 children, the oldest of whom is in Nursery at Staveley, and will start in Reception in September. I am expecting our third child in July. Working frequently with teenagers has fostered a longstanding interest in education, felt more keenly since having a family!"

Mr Mark Holt - Parent Governor
Mark Holt

I have been a parent governor since late 2014. I am a chartered accountant with a wealth of experience of finance in the private and public sectors. I worked as a senior manager with Ernst and Young in London and later in New Zealand before relocating back to my Yorkshire roots. I currently work for the civil service as a financial reporting expert.

I aim to utilise the skills I have developed throughout my career to help Staveley CPS to achieve its goals. I live in Staveley and my three children all attend the school.

In my free time I enjoy reading, films and a variety of sport. I'm a keen runner and participate in races across a range of distances.
